Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world. Half of the population (27.5 million people) live on less than $2 per day. Less than 30% of the rural population have access to electricity, not to mention the significant blackouts which are common in the rainy season. Since 1991, the NGO Read Nepal collaborates with local partners and communities in order to create development programs and trainings. The core of their actions revolve around the access to knowledge and information, the economic empowerment, the women’s empowerment and and the access to to health education and services. They have developed and maintain a network of public libraries across the country, giving villagers the opportunity to work towards a better future.
