Suchana Program: Ending the Cycle of Undernutrition in Bangladesh

Fish pond demonstration farmer:
Asma, 35, Mother of 4

35-year-old Asma is a model farmer as part of the Save the Children Suchana programme in Sylhet, Bangladesh.

Suchana helped her to start and manage her fish farm and she now runs regular demonstrations of her farm to show her neighbours and others how to raise fish for food and for income. In her pond she has around 6 different varieties of fish. She uses the fish to supply her family with a regular source of protein, as well as selling excess fish in the dry season for income.

The Suchana programme works to tackle malnutrition and food insecurity in this region of Bangladesh with a variety of interventions, including livelihood training and flood resistant farming techniques.
