Suchana beneficiary:
Rina, 25 and Aminur, 13 months
25-year-old Rina is a mother of two who has benefitted from the Save the Children Suchana programme since it started in her village in February 2017.
Thanks to Suchana, during preganacy with her son Aminur, Rina knew to go for regular check-ups with a doctor and was therefore aware and prepared with the knowledge that she’d need to have a caesarean for his birth. She safely delivered him in hospital when the time came.
Thanks also to the programme, Rina was a given a small cash grant to purchase goats and hens, providing her with both eggs for food and an income source to support her family. Critically, she has also received vital training on nutrition during pregnancy, and advice about what foods to feed her children to make sure they have the best start in life.
The Suchana programme uses trained community mobilisers to educate and inform mothers like Rina about breastfeeding, ante-natal and post-natal care, and the best food and nutrition for themselves and their children in the first 1000 days of life.
