Suchana Program: Ending the Cycle of Undernutrition in Bangladesh

Doctor Bishwajit is a resident doctor at the Public Hospital in Moulvibazar, Bangladesh. As the admitting doctor when Sumaiya was referred he weighed, measured and did a clinical assessment to establish the best treatment.
Found to be dramatically underweight for her age but fortunately with no infections, Dr Bishwajit prescribed an outpatient therapeutic feeding programme for seven days. Sumaiya’s family were given high nutrient maintenance food, supplementary fortified milk and additional vitamins. They were asked to return in seven days for progress monitoring.
